Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is actively seeking 2025 high school graduates to join its Pipe Fitter Trainee Program. This initiative offers a $500 sign-on bonus to new hires, with an additional $500 relocation bonus for candidates residing more than 50 miles from Newport News, Virginia. Applicants are eligible for these bonuses if they apply by August 1, 2025.
The program is designed for individuals without prior trade experience who are willing to complete a three-week unpaid training course in pipefitting. Newport News Shipbuilding has partnered with the Virginia Ship Repair Association and local community colleges to offer Marine Trades Training (MTT) programs, including the Pipe Fitter Trainee Program at Tidewater Community College in Portsmouth, Virginia. Courses are offered monthly, accommodating 5-10 students per class.
Upon successful completion of the training, participants are offered full-time positions at Newport News Shipbuilding, which provides competitive pay, weekly paychecks, paid time off, paid holidays, medical benefits, a 401K company match, and employee discounts.
